Counselling Services

Counselling is a type of talking therapy that allows someone to talk about their problems and feelings in a confidential environment.

A counsellor is trained to listen with empathy and help a person deal with any negative thoughts and feelings the may have.

The aim of counselling is to help people overcome issues that are causing emotional pain or making them feel uncomfortable.

It can provide a safe and regular space for talking about and exploring feelings. The counsellor is there to support their client and won’t usually give advice, but will help the client find their own insight into and understanding of their problems.

Counselling often involves talking about difficult and painful feelings and facing these can sometimes make a person feel worse. However, in time and with the help and support of their counsellor they gradually start to feel better.

It can be a great relief to share worries and fears with someone who acknowledges these feelings and is able to help with reaching a positive solution.

Counselling can take place:

  • face to face
  • individually or in a group
  • over the phone
  • by email
  • using a specialised computer programme
