Towcester Medical Centre is one of the three approved centres in the local area for Taxi Driver Medicals.
A licence is required before any person can drive a hackney carriage (taxi) or private hire vehicle (minicab).
Before a licence is granted the applicant must satisfy the Council that the applicant:
- Is over 21 years of age
- Has held a full driver’s licence for at least twelve months. This must be a UK licence in order to take the DSA test.
- Is medically fit
- Completes a Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check. (Note: This is the new name for a Criminal Record check)
- Passes a DSA driving test

A taxi driver medical takes approximately half an hour during which the doctor will carry out the necessary examinations and complete the required medical form.
Taxi Driver Medicals are done on a private basis and are charged at £120 + VAT for registered patients or £180 + VAT for non-patients.
Payment needs to be made a week in advance of the appointment.
Please note we do not have card payment facilities at the surgery so we can only accept cash or by cheques.
